My artwork is inspired by a love of architecture, the Impressionists, crazy quilts and the sublime landscape. I abstract these landscapes into glass and assemble them as if seen through a fractured lens.
- JAG

With a background in architecture, Josephine A. Geiger creates stained glass art that is functionally and structurally stable. Large pieces are designed to incorporate the required reinforcement, integrating it into the visual elements. Each work of art is constructed with traditional leaded glass techniques; from choosing and cutting each piece of glass, fitting the lead, copper & zinc came, placing hidden reinforcements, soldering all of the joints, and cementing the panel for additional stability and weather-proofing. Thus producing art that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is technically sound.
As winner of the Middleton Municipal Court and Police Station public art commission, 32 windows abstracting landscapes from the Pheasant Branch Conservancy are being created for installation in 2010. Competing against 30 Midwestern artists, Josephine A. Geiger was unanimously chosen by the Arts Council. Sunrise Aspens was selected as the cover image for the NEMAA 2009 Art-A-Whirl promotional campaigns. In 2011 “Windswept Oak” was accepted into the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit and in 2008 she received First Place for Splitrock Shadows in the Creative Arts Division. She has received many honors and awards in regional shows and has also been commissioned by hundreds of private collectors to create one-of-kind artwork.
Josephine A. Geiger continually challenges herself to push the envelope of design by incorporating unusual materials. Copper, screen mesh or unique, custom kiln-formed glass increases depth and texture while adding an element of surprise. Her signature, JAG, written in copper and fused between layers of glass, is incorporated into the artwork; sometimes hidden, and other times as an accent to the composition, guaranteeing authenticity.
2009-2010 Middleton Courthouse and Police Station
Public Art Competition: Commission was installed in April of 2010 in Middleton, WI with the Grand Opening Celebration held on April 17, 2010.
The Pheasant Branch Impressions were installed in each of the three (3) courtroom window bays and the single (1) window bay located in the police interview area. The series of four (4) Impressions are each comprised of eight (8) individual window panels installed on the interior of the insulated window unit with wood stops to match the walnut trim. Each of the Impressions was inspired by a photograph from the Pheasant Branch Conservancy.
- Impression I: a forest trail winding through stands of maple, birch, ash and oak.
- Impression II: a stream tumbling over lichen covered rocks.
- Impression III: a prairie path entering the edge of the woods.
- Impression IV: a majestic oak with brilliant fall colors and the prairie peaking through the branches.
