This is actually the second panel inspired by this watercolor sketch. The first one was a commissioned mirror, and the tall verticals of the birch in the foreground perfectly framed the side of the mirror while the river grounded the lower edge. I liked it so much that I wanted to play with how it looked as a full panel!
I really like how the river flows down through the piece with the birch trees towering up the edge, yet the small stand on the far bank balance the weight of the larger trees. And I love using the swirly Baroque glass to flow through the sky.
